Students in this college don’t just study, they also work, as the chart indicates. In their first year, about 67% of them do part-time jobs and the percentage rises slightly in their second and third year of college education. But their last school year witnesses a drastic increase in their part-time employment, surging to 88. 24%.

This pursuit of part-time jobs among college students is not surprising if we take the following factors into consideration. First and foremost, college education is no longer free and young people have to make some money to sustain their study in school and buy such things as computer and cell phone. Secondly, young people on college campus have more leisure time, allowing them to take some irregular jobs after school. More importantly, they feel a compelling need to accumulate some work experience during the four years so as to make their CV more appealing to their prospective employees. For this reason, seniors are more likely to work outside college.

While I am not strongly opposed to this practice among college students, I am justified in advocating that young people should give topmost priority to their academic achievement. If they cannot strike a balance between study and money making, their will unavoidably have greater trouble in landing a job upon graduation. Therefore, college consultants need to guide young people properly and timely.
